Praying the Scriptures with Your Preschoolers

Praying Scriptures with Preschoolers

I think sometimes we overthink life with preschoolers. Especially with things of the faith. We think it is too hard or too deep for them to understand, and we sort of give up. Or we say, “in a few years I’ll be able to teach my children about this…”

I want to share with you today something that has had a huge impact on my life and I pray will have a positive impact on your life as well.

Several years ago, in a very dark season in my life, I began {somewhat desperately} to open the Word of God each morning and read 1 Psalm. I would read a new Psalm each day, every day, sometimes even later in the day I would read it again. When I got to the end of the Psalms, I would start over again. I wrote them on index cards, I carried them with me, I cried as I read the words and eventually, I wasn’t just reading the Psalms, I was praying them.

Praying Scriptures doesn’t have to be some lofty, unattainable goal for the super spiritual. Praying the Scriptures is for the weak and broken, like me, who are desperate to hear from God. I would love for you to read 10 Benefits of Praying the Scriptures over at my place if you’re interested in seeing the ways God has grown my prayer life and walk with Him through this simple prayer tool.

So what does praying the Scriptures have to do with preschoolers?

Gift List for the Prayerful Mom

Gifts for the Prayerful Mom

If there was ever a time in our world when we needed more prayerful moms, it is now. Let’s do this, moms. Let’s get on our knees and bring our children, our husbands, our neighbors, our world before the Lord. Dig into the Word and speak those words to God from a heart that longs to see His kingdom come.

As moms we often need all the help we can get in living prayerful, intentional lives. I have some suggestions for gift ideas for these special moms in your life! {Or maybe you’d like to pass this list along to your husband! hint!}

Prayerful Mom Gifts

Gifts for the Prayerful Mom

1. Pretty & Sturdy Journal ~ these Moleskine journals last forever, this is a set of 3, so you can gift 3 friends!

2. An index card spiral ~ point your prayerful friend to this post, along with a basket full of these goodies. What a blessing!

3. Praying God’s Word by Beth Moore – this is one of my favorite Praying the Scriptures books!

4. Praying the Scriptures for Your Children by Jodie Berndt ~ this is my favorite baby gift! This book has Scriptures written out as prayers, you just place your child’s name in the verse and pray! Another one of my all time favorites!

5. Journaling Pens~ that can WRITE in your BIBLE without making a mess!! I’ve started using these recently and they do NOT bleed through the pages!! Miracle!

6. Praying the Scriptures for Your Family is available as a download/pdf or a small journal booklet. This contains 31 Scriptures to pray for your family along with journaling lines to personalize your own prayers!

7. Journaling Bible ~ This was my Christmas gift to myself. I went all out and got the leather edition because I’ve now had THREE Bibles to fall apart on me in the past 3-4 years due to how much I write/journal in it. There are other editions that aren’t nearly so expensive if that suits you better.

8. Praying the Scriptures through Advent ~ Pray Scriptures of LIGHT through the Advent season! Each day we will pray 1 Scripture on LIGHT and focus our hearts on Jesus, Light of the World! You can get this as an ebook download or a PRINT copy from Lulu.

Sweet friends, I hope these suggestions help you. There is nothing like the comfort of God’s Word and the knowledge that He hears our prayers. It is because of Jesus that we can celebrate at all. So, gifts that point us and our hearts to Him are my very favorite. He is the gift. Let’s give a little more Jesus this year.

Who Can Pray the Scriptures?

Praying-the-Scriptures-1.jpg

You’ve heard it said that the Lord can make beauty out of ashes. I’ve seen so much evidence of this truth in my own life, and I’m sure many of you have also.

When the Lord took me through the valley of depression, starting 8 years ago or so, I never quite expected what the Lord would do through those difficult seasons. There were times, hopeless times, when I didn’t expect *anything* good to come from those hard times. And honestly, I can still get caught up in looking back and dwelling on the negative if I’m not careful.

But, the Lord is slowly, but surely, changing those negative thought patterns and teaching me, one day at a time, to focus on Him, take every thought captive, to fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. He is so faithful, friends.

Teaching me to pray the Scriptures has been one of the most transformational spiritual acts that God has used in my life.

I hope you’ll join me over at The Busy Mom to read the rest of this post…
