God speaks in the silence of the heart.
Listening is the beginning of prayer.
~Mother Teresa
Listening is hard. Silence is harder. It is hard enough to listen to a loud voice that is right in front of me…what with all my own thoughts swirling around in my mind while the other person is talking. But, to listen to God?
Do you hear God?
Does God speak to you?
I’d love to hear from you!
I am trying to make it a practice to sit in silence and listen for God’s voice during my prayer time. It is very hard. But, I also know that He speaks to me in other ways…like through His Word, which is probably my favorite way to hear from Him. Or, at times, He uses others to speak to us.
I always love to read Ann Voskamp’s thoughts on prayer, here she writes about a recent experience with a lot of silence. What you really need when life is loud. Wow. She suggests having times of silence daily…make it a habit and a practice to sit in silence before God. And here she describes the Prayer of Quiet.
Be still and know that He is God.
Be still and know Him…
Be still…
