“We practice simplicity when we intentionally arrange our life around God – what he is doing in us and in this world –
and let the rest drop off.”

Abundant Simplicity: Discovering the Unhurried Rhythms of Grace
Pondering the many questions this book has brought up…
- How can I make more space for God in my life?
- Am I treasuring God or am I treasuring the things of this world?
- How could a more “simple” life ~ with fewer distractions ~ help me to have more time for what is truly important to me?
- what things do I participate in or purchase or do to be noticed? how could i simplify by searching my motives?
- do I have the courage to go against the grain?
- Do my words and conversations “impart grace to the hearers?” (eph. 4:29) thinking especially of my children here, but also others in my life. FEWER words means FEWER sins. Thinking of how to promote kindness and choose my words more carefully.
- I love sharing good ideas, but what are my motives? Am I needing to be helpful to others? Do I have a need in me to share my opinion? Am I trusting God to determine the outcome in my relationships without inserting my opinion??
- “It is a wholesome act of humility to withhold the expression of our opinions.” Shirley Hughson
- In what ways do I need to refrain from excess? STUFF or SERENITY??
- Am I living my life in a way that truly exhibits that GOD IS ENOUGH?
- Frugality does NOT always mean spending less but also focuses on how we are treating others when we purchase (fair trade? human trafficking?) and how we rely on God.
Ya’ll. this is only the beginning…this book has truly given me so much to think about, pray about…but I don’t want to just read and question these things. I don’t want to just ponder a more simple life. I want to live it.
Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts…see if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139
