I have to admit, Ecclesiastes is not a book of the Bible I have ever studied deeply or even had the desire to study! But since going through the Women of the Word study, I have been reminded that “All Scripture is God-breathed and PROFITABLE…” and we shouldn’t neglect certain parts/books of the Bible.
Then, I read the description (below) of Michelle Myer’s Conversational Commentary on the book of Ecclesiastes and I thought it would be such a great and timely book to study, especially following our study of Proverbs from earlier in the year!
“Solomon’s tried it all, been it all, and had it all. He knows first-hand that everything the world offers us is a counterfeit offer of what God has already given us. Ecclesiastes exposes the world’s relentless cycle of empty promises, but it’s not without hope. Quite the opposite actually. Solomon finally realizes the difference between the temporary and the eternal. Eccelesiastes is his best attempt to give us wisdom to live for heaven while on earth.”
I ordered several resources to use as we read our way through Ecclesiastes, but the Conversational Commentary has by far been my favorite! These commentaries are easy to read, written for normal people like you and me, not super theologically deep so that we have to spend hours deciphering one paragraph. (I also loved her Conversational Commentary on Philippians!)
