One thing that I pray fervently is for my children to love Jesus. I pray that they will love him more and more as each year passes. I pray He will continue the work He has started in each of their hearts. I pray that He is so real to them.
As I pray for my children, I pray that God will use them to bring glory to Himself and to bring others to Himself. Missions has an important place in my heart and I am excited to see how God will use that delight of my heart in the lives of my children. Lord, may it be so!!
My children are growing up with the knowledge that serving Jesus is important to me. They see me serve at church, they see me going on mission trips. And I do not take these things lightly. This is something that I struggle with each and every time I go on a trip. I always pray (and agonize) over whether I should go. Sometimes I do not feel the peace to go, and I stay.
But, sometimes, God is gracious and allows me the awesome privilege of serving Him somewhere outside of my usual area. These times are so very precious to me…and I pray that these trips not only make an impact on my own life, but on the lives of my children.
I don’t share all this to toot my own horn. I hope and pray that as I publish this post, you see my heart. I do not share this to brag about any kind of service that I have done – because it is only His grace that allows me to serve. But, I share because I think it is important for us, as parents, to share WITH OUR CHILDREN in the joys of serving others. I have tried to start talking more to my children about WHY I go on these mission trips. I try to share with them throughout the year WHY we sponsor children, WHY we are so blessed and have SO much. I just pray with all my heart that these words, these trips, these memories, are growing in my children hearts that want to serve others.
Oh Lord, this is the cry of my heart. Let my children’s lights shine before others, that they may see their good deeds and PRAISE YOU, our Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Let my children sing of your great love forever, let them make known your faithfulness through all generations. Psalm 89:1
Cause my children to follow you, and make them fishers of people. Matthew 4:19
