I recently finished leading a Bible Study at church on the book of James and want to share all of the resources I used with you!
Women of the Word
If you are new to Bible Study OR have been in the church your whole life but have never been taught HOW to study your Bible, you need to read through the book Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin. There are also FREE videos on Youtube that walk you through this book. The book and the videos are SO good. This book and her methods have changed the way I read and study God’s Word forever!
When we studied the book of James at my church, we tried to follow the ideas and methods that Jen shares in Women of the Word.
Resources I Used to Study James
- This small spiral journal: this journal is so simple, it is in the picture at the top of this post. It literally contains the book of JAmes typed out with a blank/lined page beside each page for notetaking. GENIUS.
- Free James workbook from Jen Wilkin: you have to submit a form on her website, but this FREE James workbook is SO good! It is a 12 week study, but we didn’t use every single page/question for our study at church.
- ESV study Bible: I recommend a study Bible of some sort, whichever you prefer! I happen to have this one that I used for our James study. I recently purchased the ESV study Bible because our new pastor is preaching from the ESV, but any study bible will do!
- Free videos on Youtube: these are free and short and will walk you through studying the book of James with Jen Wilkin, so good!

Write the Word
If you’d like a plan for writing a few verses per day for a month, you can download this free pdf with a schedule of verses!
Ok, friends! That’s it! You really can join me as we study James with just your Bible and a notebook! Jen Wilkin does suggest (and I do too!) having the book of James printed out, double spaced, if you don’t want to purchase that “small spiral journal” I linked to above.
James, written by the brother of Jesus, is such a rich, rich book of the Bible full of what it means to live and walk by faith; genuine faith, as well as what godly wisdom looks like. It’s one of my favorite letters in the New Testament!
