Wow…what a day! It actually wasn’t very restful…but I love getting things like baking done on the weekend so I don’t have to worry with it during the week.
In addition to trying out my Bosch for the first time and baking 2 loaves of bread, 2 loaves of cinnamon raisin, 1 set of rolls; I also made 2 batches of granola and got our sunflowers planted!
The hardest part of our day was concerning one of our kittens. Yesterday we noticed one of our kittens breathing rapidly and that her whole body was moving out and in each time she breathed. She also was making a tiny squeaking, wheezing sound.
This morning, she wasn’t any better, so we took her to a 24-hour emergency pet clinic. The first thing they told us what that she had a heart murmur. Then, they had to do another x-ray and the news that the vet brought in wasn’t very good.
The vet said that the kitten’s heart was extremely enlarged. We were able to look at the x-rays and also a picture of a regular cat’s heart to see just how big our kittie’s heart was. Her heart took up nearly all of the insides of her chest, instead of the tiny heart that should be in a tiny 7 week old kitten. The vet said that in her 20 years in her work she had never seen a small kitten with a heart like this. (someone asked why the kitten’s heart would be enlarged…the vet told us that it would have been enlarged at birth…just like a birth defect or something.)
At that point, the vet told us that there was not much they could do for her. Her little body just could not keep up with the pressure inside her. She gave us the options for putting her down.
After we figured out what we were doing, they brought in the kittie for us to see one last time. We explained to the kids what was happening and said our goodbyes. I admit, I was rather emotional. We’ve gotten pretty attached to these sweet kittens over the last few weeks. I was also so sad thinking about our mommy cat at home looking around for her missing cat. 🙁
So, anyway…that was our day. I did come home and get alot done…freshly baked bread makes one feel better! And I was so excited to have fresh bread again!!

Oh no Candace! I’m so sorry to hear about the little kitten. It is so hard making the decision to put an animal to sleep. We did it a year ago for my dog. I’m hoping that fresh bread will lift your spirits indeed!
Much love!

That is so sad, and for the kids to have to learn so young to say goodbye to a little baby kitten that they have loved for 7 weeks. Wow – that is a tear jerker.

Yay for fresh baked healthy bread! Sad for the poor little kitten. What makes a kitten’s heart enlarged? That is so sad. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you!

Great job on the baking. I need to get motivated like that!
