I am so excited about this unit study! We are reading a fabulous book called The Great Kapok Tree.
The best part about this unit study is that there is a wonderful unit already written up for me on Homeschool Share! There is SO MUCH good stuff there, I don’t really have to add anything to it!! How great is that?!?! 🙂
The kids woke up to a rainforest display table this morning! I set up the books we’ll be reading, chocolate, and various fruits/spices/foods from the rainforest as well: avocado, banana, grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, pineapple, sweet potato, chili powder, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, cashews tea, gum…FUN!! I think the kids will have fun learning about all the things that grow in the rainforest. I’d like to taste test most of these fruits throughout the week, too!
This unit also comes with a wonderful lapbook to go along with the book. If you want to take a peek at Ami’s blog, her son recently did this unit study and their lapbook looks great!Other books we’ll be reading with our rainforest unit:
And guess what we will be following this unit with?? Well…thinking along the lines of FOODS that grow in the rainforest…a CHOCOLATE UNIT STUDY!! yipeee…another GREAT and FREE unit from HSS!

Candace-Your rainforest unit looks awesome. I want to come to your house to learn! BTW, there is a great series of books called The Biography of______ that might go well with your unit. They are somewhat long so you might only want to look at pictures or read sections. They have a lot of them for rainforest products. Off the top of my head there is….
The Biography of…
bananas
vanilla
chocolate
Our library has the whole series. They are real interesting.

Do you consider yourself as a unit study mom? Just curious. I really enjoyed looking through what you’ve done with your kids and am wondering if you have favorite resources to recommend?
