In our Around the World studies we have spent the past few weeks in Japan. We have gotten to “row” some wonderful FIAR titles, one of which was Grandfather’s Journey. This book mentions WW2, so we learned a little bit about the war with our unit study last week.
My grandfather was a pilot in WW2 and we were able to visit with him and let him share some stories, show us pictures, look at his planes and hear about the war from someone who was there. This was a special time for us and I’m so thankful that we had this opportunity!

My grandma, this is a picture that she sent with him as he left for war. He carried it with him on all his missions!

This is a gift that my grandpa sent back from India to my grandmother.
My grandpa and me.
The girls with their great-grandfather; they are holding the book, Grandfather’s Journey, that we read last week for school.
My grandfather went on quite a journey himself, and I’m so thankful that he is still with us so that my kids could hear about this time in our history from one who lived it.

What a beautiful gift for your children to have your grandpa still alive to share his story with them. My grandpa was in the Army during WWII but be died about 7 years ago (before my kids were born). I showed this post to my boys since we rowed Gradnfather’s Journey last week and this week we rowed Glorious Flight! They had fun looking at the airplanes pictures. Thanks for sharing, Candace!

That is so totally awesome that your kids get that experience. My father was in WWII and passed away in 1988, my son who is totally into the military and wants to be a pilot will never get that opportunity to hear my dad’s war stories.. you guys are so blessed!!

That is so special! How cool that he still has so many momentos from WWII. What a blessing, too, that you all live near enough to visit.
Thank you for sharing this!
