I love passages in the Bible that have the “if, then” statement, and Proverbs chapter 2 is full of them! These if, then statements kind of give you a “practical” way of assessing where you are spiritually…it also helps for setting goals for ourselves spiritually. Of course, these if, then statements also give us much to PRAY about!
If you…
receive my words
treasure my commands
incline your ear to wisdom
cry out for discernment
lift up your voice for understanding
seek wisdom as silver
search for her as for hidden treasures
Then…
you will understand the fear of the Lord
you will find the knowledge of God
you will understand righteousness and justice,
equity and every good path.
When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you…Prov. 2:10
Is the wisdom and knowledge of the Lord pleasant to my soul?
Or do other things become so pleasant that I don’t seek out His wisdom and His knowledge?
Heavenly Father, You promise to give me wisdom if I am seeking you, receiving Your words, treasuring Your commands, crying out for discernment…and Lord, I want to do just that. I cry aloud for Your precious wisdom, for Your perfect discernment. I pray that You would help us to be diligent, because without You alive in our hearts, we can’t even begin to have more of You. I pray that you would soften my heart to Your wisdom and knowledge. Remove any pride from my life that would prevent me from hearing You. Thank You for hearing my prayer and for the promise of Your wisdom.
