Not that anyone has noticed (or cared!) LOL but I haven’t kept up with posting on my own blog my answers to the So Long, Insecurity discussion we’ve been having over on Beth Moore’s blog, Living Proof. One week I didn’t feel like I have much to share, and then a few weeks I left my answers on that blog and didn’t feel like it was very blog worthy. 🙂
But, I did kind of want to catch up a bit as we are about to be finishing up this book.
For starters, the book has been AWESOME for me. I highly recommend it. 🙂 I know for myself, I will need to go back and read this one again.
Also, if there is a simulcast in your area, please check it out!! Â I am VERY excited that our church is hosting the simulcast on April 24th. So, if you are local, you have about another week to get tickets. LET ME KNOW if you’d like a ticket!! They are $20 including a Chick-Fil-A lunch!
Here are a few highlights from the past few chapters that I have read:
“Insecurity is more than a complex emotion. It is a lie about our God-sanctioned condition.” p.244
“Let’s learn how to process something negative without automatically allowing it to keep company with our insecurity.” p. 246 (Whoa, this is SO ME.)
In regard to our female friendships…”will I think the best of her or the worst? Will I focuse on this exact moment of offense, or will I remember a faithful, long-term friendship?” p. 277 And, along those same lines, “insecurity will rob us of some of the richest woman-to-woman relationships of our lives.” p. 277
“We must catch ourselves in the act of unhealthy thinking and call our souls to switch tracks.” p. 282
When we catch ourselves feeling insecure, RIGHT IN THAT MOMENT, we need to have some lines to recite to ourselves…one of the main verses that Beth focuses on in this book is, “I am clothed with strength and dignity.” from Prov. 31. If you are a child of God, He has clothed you, He has given you ALL YOU NEED to be strong in Him and to be dignified. HE is our security!!
Another one to repeat to yourself, “My security is mine to keep. God gave it to me. No one gets to take it from me.” p. 281
Another truth that is mentioned in the book that I have also found to be true in my own life is, “I’ve also found it difficult to keep despising someone I consistently pray for.” So, are you consistently praying for those that have hurt you? If not, I think it is a great place to start. 🙂
The last 2 chapters of the book deals with our fears. Our fears are usually what leads to insecurity. These last few chapters are just so good. There is also a short prayer at the end to use and pray through anytime you’re having a weak moment.
These are just some of the points that really stuck out to me, I hope and pray that you will read this book…I have so enjoyed reading through a lot of the answers on the Living Proof blog as we’ve read through this book. Even if you read it later, you can always go back to her blog and scroll through reading the different discussion questions (and answers) from the chapters. I encourage you to do that, because I think you will gain so much more from the book!!

Thanks for sharing. I am really enjoying this book and being very convicted along the way!
Our church is having its first simulcast this September – I am sooo excited! But I am not sure if it is a So Long Insecurity one or not.
I hope you have a lovely day, Candace!
