We are only 9 chapters into the book of Proverbs and already we see what a HUGE emphasis is made on the importance of wisdom from the Lord. This challenges me to search myself and look for ways that I am actively seeking the wisdom of the Lord. Am I daily seeking His face through His Word and through prayer? And, when I think about wisdom, I think about the ability to use the knowledge He has given us…
If we are going to have Godly wisdom, prayer MUST go hand in hand with the study of Scriptures. We can’t just study for head knowledge…we must ask God, as we study and as we seek Him, to open our eyes and our hearts to His purpose and what He wants to teach us personally. This is true wisdom. Wisdom is very different from just knowledge.
“Rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man and he will be wiser still, teach a just man and he will increase in learning.” Proverbs 9:9
“The wise in heart will receive commands…” Proverbs 10:8
These verses bring up a very good point in our study of Godly wisdom. Along with prayer, there is another part that is essential as well…humility.
If we are wise, we can accept correction, rebuke and instruction from others. Friends, I admit that this used to be a lot harder for me! My pride wanted to insist on always being right and having the best way. Oh how thankful I am that God has been humbling me…honestly, it is so much more FREEING to let others be right, to let others be in charge and to rest in the knowledge that I am His and it doesn’t matter what others think of me and whether they think I’m right of wrong. I’m not “there” yet…I don’t always do it right, but God is teaching me and growing me day by day.
Dear Father, show me the places where there is still pride in my heart. Continue to allow me to come to you in prayer often so that you can change me and mold me into who You want me to be. Allow me the freedom and humility to accept instruction and correction from others. Give me the grace to fix my eyes on You and You alone.

I love your thoughts on Proverbs. Our church just went through the book of Proverbs together for our quiet time. It was really amazing. I could read it ten more times and still not touch the tip of the iceberg of all God would have me to learn for that book!
I just wanted to remind you about Momentous Monday tomorrow on my blog!

I’ve read proverbs several times, and each time I find something “new”. It’s amazing how it adapts to our life at that moment. You’ve reminded me to read it again. Thank you.
Blessings,
