We are halfway through Chapter 3, or Lesson 3 as the book calls it, of Apologia’s Human Anatomy for elementary kids. (Exploring Creation Human Anatomy
As individual families, we are reading each chapter on our own during the week. And we are spending 2 weeks on 1 chapter, so we expect to use this text for an entire school year. Then, when we get together on Wednesday afternoons, we review the material with the kids, ask questions, and let them share interesting things they have learned. We also do the experiments from the book together. There are quite a few “try this” activities in each chapter provided in the book, so as moms we have had to come up with very little on our own!!
So far we have learned all about the cell, you probably remember our very appetizing edible cell that the kids enjoyed making! 🙂 We have also learned about the bones and are now halfway through the chapter on muscles. I have to admit, I am probably learning even more than the kids are!!

One resource that we have enjoyed along with our Apologia book is the The Magic School Bus: Human Body
We also hope to go on a few more field trips throughout the year, as they correspond with our chapters. We are hoping to see an optometrist when we learn all about the eye as well as a few other ideas we are still working on.
