Can you believe we are starting our 4th week of reading the Bible daily? This week we will be reading 1st and 2nd Samuel as well as 1st and 2nd Kings.
I think David is probably one of my favorite Bible characters. God teaches us so many wonderful truths through his life…and I’m thankful for more time to read about him! I also love that Samuel heard the Lord and how his obedience set in motion some of the greatest momentsof our faith and history!
“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:9
This is my prayer. Daily. Moment by moment. Speak to me, Lord.
“But when they said, ‘Give us a king to lead us,’ this displeased Samuel so he prayed to the Lord.” 1 Samuel 8:6
Ahhh, when I’m displeased: pray. When I’m frustrated: pray. When I’m down: pray. I love this verse and this glimpse into Samuel’s life. He was a man of prayer and knew the right thing to do when he was displeased.
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
This is a verse that we all need to come back to time and time again, don’t you think?? 🙂 I know I do!! My insecure self needs this reminder that God ~ who I long to please ~ not only looks at my heart, but knows my heart. And loves me still.
God chose David not because he was handsome and strong, but because He could see his heart…and He knew that David had a heart that longed for God.
David was small.
David was weak.
David was a shepherd.
David had major failures and periods of sin in his life.
Yet, God called him a man after His own heart.
I don’t know about you, but this brings me such HOPE. God knows our hearts…He knows our weaknesses…He knows our temptations and our sinful desires…He knows the times we have messed up big time. But He can still use me!
He can and will use you, too, friend!! I pray you are encouraged in your reading this week!!

Candace – I just blogged about my current Bible in 90 status. And I’m encouraged… with all of the birthday preparation for my twins’, etc., I must have forgotten how to count. I’m not hardly as behind as I thought I was! I am only 4 days behind and not the 100s of chapters that I originally thought. I’m definitely not as down as I was, even though I wasn’t quitting at all, I am much more encouraged now than I was. I am finishing up 2 days worth today and maybe even more if I can. If I can keep up my current pace, I’ll be caught up by Wed. (or before).
