How has your week been? We have had some craziness around our house – ongoing stomach aches, tooth infections, antibiotics, busted lips, company coming over, planning for a baptism, more company, no sleep for quite a few nights, lots of crying – and not just me crying this week! ha!!
Needless to say, it hasn’t been the most productive of weeks…but just because we aren’t productive, doesn’t mean we aren’t still learning, still growing. We have had a few good school days, another fun week of co-op together, started Bible study back up at church and much more. We are back into the swing of a fall schedule already. Whew. I think my kids and I are worn out already!!
I can already tell that it’s going to be hard to watch what I eat the more we are out of the house. I haven’t found a way to transport water and keep it COLD all day long – any suggestions? I love my big water bottle, but it won’t fit in our little cooler and ice melts in this heat after about 3 minutes. Even the water bottles that are meant to keep things cool, don’t last long. And I guess, ideally, I’d like to be able to refill them as we are out running errands…I hate to keep buying the plastic water bottles, but they just make “on the go” so much easier. Any thoughts? I really don’t want to spend the extra grocery money buying water bottles either. But, I MUST keep drinking LOTS of water all day…
We also tend to go through the drive through more on the 2 days we are out the house. ugh. I have tried keeping snacks in the car for the kids, and this works to an extent…it is better (and cheaper) than fast food, but it still isn’t the greatest foods – granola bars, peanut butter crackers. Any suggestions there? Don’t suggest a day full of cooking great, healthy snacks. At this point, I know that is just not going to happen.
I have found that I love the Cliff Bars!! That works for me, but I still consider those to be WAY too expensive for 3 kids to eat daily…I try to limit them to when I’m out running around or 1 every other day.
Back to the book. 🙂 Chapter 11 talks about getting a handle on the food issue during TOUGH times. How timely. I have often found myself thinking, “I just can’t eat like this forever. I will have to have some ice cream at some point.” 🙂 I have prayed many times, “Lord, please, PLEASE help me not to crave these foods. Can’t you just help me to think sugar is GROSS?”
Well, I think He may have answered a little portion of that prayer in a round about way last week. It had been a long day…David was gone, I had the kids and we were out past lunch time and I stopped to get a $5 pizza. (for the kids, yep, I wasn’t going to eat any.) Well, I love pizza. We got home, I was hungry, it was so EASY…so I ate it. And, I didn’t just eat 1 piece, I ate 3 pieces!! oh dear…it has been a LONG time since I’ve had that much pizza, carbs, white flour, etc. And within a few hours I felt AWFUL. I felt drugged, like I had to go to bed, terrible. I actually thought I was getting sick. So, I’m thinking maybe it was the pizza!??!
But, ya’ll. Really. $5 pizzas are just so easy!! I need some easy every now and then.
I am clinging to this verse and praying if often…and as I read this verse, I am encouraged that HE is praying for me also!!
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Romans 8:26.
How is your week going?

Have you tried taking the plastic water bottles and filling them mostly full and then freezing them. I find it takes those a little longer to melt than just putting ice cubes in my water bottle. As far as the kid’s snacks go if you can get them to eat a homemade trail mix that has nuts and dehydrated fruit that might be a healthier option that you can fix up yourself without spending an entire day in the kitchen. Hope some of this helps!
I’ve really enjoyed your recap on all the chapters in this book. It’s on my list to buy and read and when I do I plan to come back here and reread what you had to say about each chapter.

Candace,
We do cheese sticks and fruit when we’re out and about. I really like the Clif bars too, but agree they are $. Do you use those frozen blocks of ice that can be refrozen? They last when we’re out and about. Just an idea.

I am a HUGE fan of Large McDonald’s Styrofoam Ice Tea cups filled with ice cold water. I get on of those and use it for a week before it starts to just annoy me, then I go get another one. It last me in the Florida sun a pretty long time. Try that.
As far as Cliff Bars go. Check Amazon and Target. Target has pretty good deal on them.
And of course, the Pizza issue!!! I feel that every time I start to make progress on something Satan tries his darnedest to ruin it for me. Sometimes he wins, but I am SO onto him and his wickedness. I would rather you find a Subway and spend $10.00 and split the subs in half and eat those then a $5.00 pizza. There was NOTHING real in that pizza, completely processed.
Anyway keep up the GREAT work. You’ll make it, I know you will!!
