As I mentioned in my review of this book, I LOVE IT. This book has been such an encouragement to me and has given me the motivation and support I have needed time and time again. Honestly, I think I just need to keep reading and re-reading this book as I continue on this journey towards healthy living. This book isn’t what I expected…and for that, I’m grateful. I didn’t need another “diet.”
“It is good for God’s people to be put in a place of longing so they feel a slight desperation. Only then can we be empty enough and open enough to discover the holiness we were made for. When we are stuffed full of other things and never allow ourselves to be in a place of longing, we don’t recognize the deeper spiritual battle going on.” Made to Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food, p. 168.
Wow. That is so convicting to me. When I find myself in a place of longing or desperation, I usually try my hardest to get OUT of that place. But, have you ever thought that maybe that is right where God wants us?
Only when we are truly desperate do we learn how to cling to God with all our might.
Lysa mentions asking God to “unsettle” us. This really struck a nerve with me. Afterall, I don’t like being unsettled. But, I have written down these words as a prayer that Lysa mentions and think it is so beautiful and humbling and right where God wants us to be.
Yes, indeed, unsettle me, Lord.
Unearth that remnant of unforgiveness.
Shake loose that justification for compromise.
Reveal that broken shard of pride.
Expose the tendency to distrust.
Unsettle me in the best kind of way.
Amen.
from Made to Crave, p. 171.
Here we are at the end of this fabulous book. This book has challenged me. This book has convicted me. This book has encouraged me. This book has spurred me in areas other than just food-related struggles. I’m so thankful to have shared this book with each of you…I’d still love to hear from you all if you are continuing on in this journey!! I would love to hear how you are doing as I continue praying for you!! I would still love to hear any tips and ideas you have tried that have worked for you, too!!
Unsettle us, Lord. We are desperate for You.
