As I seek to pray more intentionally and faithfully for my children and family, I have used different aides to help. I have used notebooks, prayer journals, lists, etc. And, I don’t think it’s bad, honestly, to change up your “aide” or method every once in awhile, it keeps things fresh. And, if you’re crafty like me, it gives you something fun and cute to work on – with a great purpose!!
So, when I saw this idea from Janna’s blog at Mustard Seeds, I knew this would be my next prayer aide. 🙂 It is just awesome!!

There are several reasons why I love this idea:
- I have been reading the book The Praying Life by Paul Miller (which I hope to also discuss more later in this series) and he uses a similar notecard “system” for his prayer life
- I like taking notecards or my little spiral of notecards on walks or to the treadmill
- I love having Scriptures ready to pray right in my hands
- I love the idea of seeing someone’s face as I pray for them, with the pictures
- I also LOVE that Janna made prayer cards for her children to have (and I hope to also talk about this more later in the series when we discuss praying with our children)
Here are a few of the cards I have made so far. I did it a *little* differently from Janna, but I just wanted to use what I had, which was these big index cards. So, I put a little scrapbook paper behind the pictures to pretty it up a bit.
The only thing I wasn’t sure about with the laminating was being able to write more requests on these as they come along. In the book, A Praying Life, he shows his notecards for each person and he will jot notes down on his card as he needs to, updating his requests, etc. So, after I printed off a few Bible verses, I also put a few reminders of things I want to continue praying for each person as well as the date. I figure I will update them periodically anyway maybe. 🙂
What about you? What “aides” do you use for your prayer life? I have other ones I’d like to share about too…but I’d love to hear from you, please link up also if you have something on your blog pertaining to prayer and what you use in your prayer life!!
“Lord, help my child to rejoice in you always. Let his gentleness be evident to all. Remind him that the Lord is near. Help him not to be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, to present his requests to You. And grant him Your peace, which transcends all understanding, and guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7
