Guess what I worked on today!?!?
I had an exciting trip to walmart today!! Yes, I have officially gone crazy to admit to a good walmart trip!
In our walmart craft section today I found a DOLLAR SECTION similar to one you might find at Target!! You should have seen me, I was like a little kid in a candy store! You see, we live in a TINY town with the closest Target being about 35 minutes away. So…this was very exciting to me!
And, you see those Christmas shapes above? I bought 3 packs of those to use as our Advent Countdown Calendar this year!! They are actually little craft/greeting cards. (most of the stuff in this dollar section was crafty stuff.)
So, I’m going to write inside each day’s card what we are doing for that day and then hang them all on the bright red ribbon. Love!
I’ve been brainstorming what to write down for each day. For the most part, they will be simple ideas, here are some I’ve come up with so far:
{Lots of my ideas are bookmarked on my Christmas pinterest board.}
- Saint Nicholas Day (Dec. 6th) – Read Santa Are You for Real? and make Nutter Butter Santas (found on my pinterest board)
- Candy Canes – LOTS of activities here – we will read The Legend of the Candy Cane on this day, we will probably spend a few days on these fun activities!
- Make gifts for others – I have several all ready to go with supplies purchased
- Take treats/thank-you gifts to pastors on 1 Sunday
- Read Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends and make gingerbread cookies – Caleb will work on the candy kit from HSS
- Read Mortimer’s Christmas Manger and make the graham cracker nativity from pinterest
- Read The Legend of the Poinsettia and take poinsettia to mamaw in the nursing home
- Read The Pine Tree Parable and make Christmas Tree felt craft on pinterest
- Read If You Take a Mouse to the Movies and go see a Christmas movie as a family
- Clean out room and take old toys to local ministry drop-off point
- Shop for a family in need that our small group will give Christmas to
- Make and take treats to neighbors
- Go see the Christmas light show in Sevierville
If you are looking for a FABULOUS idea this advent and want to incorporate doing things for OTHERS, take a peek at this!! I love it so much! This mom, Tracie, made up 25 Random Acts of Christmas Kindness for she and her kids to do all through December! There are printable cards if you’d like, too! I’m implementing this into our 25 days of Advent too!!
I know it’s only Nov. 10th, but Advent starts on Nov. 27th this year and I wanted to be prepared!! I love having the fun activities planned for the kids and it just won’t happen if I don’t make a list and get it all together. I also love wrapping each of the Christmas books we will read and letting them open 1 each day. Such sweet, special memories!! I love Christmas!!
