We have been learning about the 13 colonies in our American History for the past few weeks. We have had a lot of fun learning about a typical school day in the colonies, how they lived, what jobs they did, what their homes were like and how they cooked! Here are a few pictures of some things we’ve done.
We learned about how strict the school masters were in the colonies! Here is a picture of Caleb wearing a dunce cap! Can you believe they made kids wear these things??
Here is Leigha wearing a sign that says, “bitefinger baby!” Kids would actually have to wear signs like this for their punishments!
We made horn books like the colonial children had to learn their letters and reading.
We talked about chores that the colonial kids had compared to chores that we do today. We made a Venn diagram of these chores.
We looked at pictures of various pictures of kitchen tools and compared them to the items we have today like dishwashers, refrigerators, sinks and microwaves. 🙂
Then we made butter!!
It turned out great! The kids took turns shaking and shaking…and then we enjoyed our butter on some rolls.
