Our worship pastor shared something in choir practice that just blessed me in the deepest parts of my soul…I want to share with you so that you will be encouraged. I also want to share because I don’t want to forget. I want to remember when God speaks to me…through His Word or through others.
For those of you that are parents, think about your children as babies and toddlers. What do they do when they come to you and want to be picked up?
They lift their hands.
What does this mean to a child? It means a lot of things, I think…
The child needs to be held.
The child wants his father/mother.
The child trusts the parent.
The child needs the parent.
The child wants to be close to mommy or daddy.
When we come to worship, we are showing our Father that we need Him. We are desperate for Him. We want to be held by Him. We surrender to Him. We want to be close to Him.
So, we worship with our physical being…just like they did in Scriptures. Every time they worshiped there was some sort of physical action shown. I’m not being legalistic about it. Of course you don’t have to raise your hands. 🙂 Just like I trust you not to judge me when I do raise my hands, I would never judge your heart for not raising them. It is totally a heart issue. It’s between you and God.
But, I will say this…I have raised my hands more and more over the past few years. I think it is all a part of God humbling me. I need Him so desperately. When I close my eyes and lift my hands and sing to Him, I am offering Him my all. I am begging Him to hold me close. I am showing Him my heart: ready and willing to receive Him and His voice over my life. I am praising Him with all that I am.
I come to Him broken and needy.
