My heart has been so, so full of thoughts on simplicity, contentment and gratitude. I finished the book,Β Almost Amish, Β and am almost finished now with The Dirty Life. I have a post coming later this week discussing both. π But these books, as well as my word of the year have stirred up these topics in my heart and mind. I enjoyed both books very much, though they were very different.
Living a more simple life ~ in this day and age ~ takes work. It’s not easy to live simply. Contrary to the picture we have in our heads, simple does NOT equal easy. That is one thing I’m learning. But, as I learn to do new thing around my home, as I strive to stick to a more strict budget, as I tweak recipes…I’m content and thankful for the opportunity to bless my family AND to live a more simple lifestyle. We’ll see how long these happy feelings last. π
I’m continuing to start my days with a thankful heart…and feel so blessed to be in a place in life where I can spend a few leisurely moments with my coffee, my Bible and my gratitude list.
To my friends with SMALL children: the day will come when your children can wake up, fix their own breakfast and you can be sitting in your comfy chair just reading along. None of us are really talkers in the morning (or huge talkers at any time! ha!) but in the mornings, I say good morning and then they just quietly eat and roam around for a bit…Of course not every morning is perfect, but I realize how blessed I am to be at this state and not waking at all crazy times of the night to feed children. π And don’t get in your heads that just because we aren’t talkers means our home is quiet. My kids fight like cats and dogs. Pretty constant around here…drives David and me nuts. But as far as getting up in the mornings and having big meaningful conversations, usually doesn’t happen. π
For today, I’m thankful…
