Jennie Allen’s Chase {bible study review}

I was first introduced to the author, Jennie Allen, with her book Anything.  I loved that book, so I was excited to get a chance to review the 7 week Chase DVD-Based Study she just put out! I had wanted to get a group of ladies together to do this study, but we have had so much sickness and a few trips out of town, that I decided to just start watching them on my own. I would still love to do it with a group someday though!!

In these short dvd sessions, each session is anywhere from 8-12 minutes, and Jennie discusses the life of David. I really loved taking a more in depth look at the life of David because he is one of my very favorite Bible characters!! Since the Psalms is my favorite book of the Bible, it makes sense that I would love studying David!

Jennie introduces the theme of CHASE and encourages us to take a look at our own lives and figure out what we are chasing. Are we chasing after more money? a better reputation? marriage? family? better job? bigger house? approval?

Nothing on earth will satisfy us like Jesus…and Jennie shares how David learned this in his life and takes us along the path of finding that truth in our own lives.

Because the videos are so short, there is plenty of time for discussion, which is why I would love to have done this study with a group! The other fun thing about this study, that I haven’t seen before, is that there are conversation cards included in the DVD box set for your small group!! These are just short questions to get your small group talking and knowing one another better! love this! There is also a workbook and a leader guide to go with the set.

I love that this study takes you through 1st and 2nd Samuel and the life of David, but also brings in many of the Psalms that he wrote as 1 Samuel was happening! I love the questions for reflection and the challenges she gives throughout this study.

My memory verse for this week ties in nicely with this study too. I love it when God does that! 🙂 I need all the reminders I can get that nothing, nothing, nothing on this earth can fill me up like Jesus. Nothing can give me the peace, contentment and joy that He can. Why keep searching all around me? Earth has nothing I desire besides HIM.
