Paul learned to be content in whatever his circumstances. He was in prison and learned to be content. Could I say the same about my own life? Not usually.
In chapter 2 of Abundant Simplicity, Jan Johnson challenges us to “deny ourselves a little something each day.” What would happen in this country if we all started living this out? Sheesh!! I think we would see a revolution!!
I challenge you ~ and myself ~ to think this week about the phrase “bigger is better.” “As society pressures us to move forward and upward, we feel the need to continually upgrade: our computers, our education, our living space, the quality of our grass.” from ch. 2.
Look at our busy lives. Do you ever get the sense from others in your life that being busy is a sign of significance? I know I used to battle this a lot. I still do to an extent, but I’m getting much better about saying no and staying home. Not that home is *always* the best option, but for me, the busy life just wasn’t working for me or our family. I just couldn’t keep up and then felt guilty and defeated every.single.day. That’s not the life I want to live.
I want to continue learning to be happy and content everyday with where God has me and what He has given. I don’t want to continually be looking for ways to make more money, find a bigger home, update my wardrobe, keep my living room up to date, and on.and.on.and.on.
Like Paul, I want to declare to the world:
I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little.
