Sometimes I share things on Instagram and think, “this could be a blog post!” So, here we are. 🙂 A few weeks ago I shared about finding an old spiral index notebook that I kept for memory verses and prayer requests. Several folks asked about it, so I decided to share more here on the blog!
I’ve been cleaning out in a BIG way at our house lately. I’ve gotten rid of probably more trash bags full that I can even recall. Clothes, books, school stuff for little ones {sniff,} and just anything and everything we haven’t used in a long while.
I was cleaning off a bookshelf in my room and came across my old spiral index card booklets. I ended up finding them from 4 or 5 various years. Now, before you go and think I’m super spiritual, the MAIN reason I keep these is because I WILL FORGET. If someone asks me to pray for them, I want to honor that…so I write it down and keep it out on my countertop during the day or in my purse if we are leaving the house.
There are 2 ways I’ve used my spiral index cards: weekly memory verses and weekly prayer requests.
Each week I would write on 2 new cards. The first would be a memory verse, and if I happened to be memorizing a longer passage, I still only wrote one verse per week to keep it easier to keep up with the memorizing aspect of it. The second card would be specific requests to pray for during that week. If someone asked me to pray, I would write it here. If I knew of a mission trip, I would write that down. {See my 5 favorite books for praying moms!}
Friends, this is such a SIMPLE way to stay close to God through the day. In fact, I pulled these out and hadn’t kept a spiral in 2 years, and now I’m missing it! I’m going to get right back to it! Once you are into the habit of carrying it with you around the house or in your purse, it becomes second nature…pull it out while you’re waiting in the car somewhere, grab it on your way to the bathroom, set it on the window sill in your kitchen, the possibilities are endless.
I would love to hear from you! What do you use during the day to stay close to God? To help you remember to pray? To keep Scripture on the forefront of your mind?? Let’s share and encourage one another to GET in the Word and STAY in the Word! I know I need all the help I can get to STAY FOCUSED and FIX MY EYES on JESUS!!
How do you keep track of memory verses? What about prayer requests?

I wanted to commit to pray for my pastor everyday, but somehow I would forget. So, I have a dedicated alarm on my phone to remind me. When it rings I stop what I am doing and pray. For memory verses I write it down and put a copy in the bathroom, kitchen, living room, sewing room and anh other place I spend time.

Thank you for this great idea! My daughter (6) and I both made something similar for ourselves. We used regular index cards and ARC punched them, added the small ARC rings and made a cover by decorating index card dividers with washi tape and ARC punched them 🙂 They turned out so cute? She is using hers to help with her weekly memory verses for Sunday School!

Thank you for sharing! I am now going to try this but would like to share my journey with others. How do I set up a blog and as I’m new to this. Thought it would be a good incentive for me to keep focused on the Word of God.
Thanks!
