I am so very excited about this guest post today from my friend Mystie. This girl is the most organized and well-thought-out and well-planned friend I think I’ve ever not met. {grin} We are online friends and she lives on the other side of the country, but I would LOVE to meet her in person one day.
Mystie has created a brand new resource that I just knew my readers would LOVE. In fact, I’m quite excited about this myself. I have one daughter, my middle child, who LOVES cooking/baking and helping in the kitchen. This is the perfect resources for families!
Now, let’s hear from Mystie!

It started when my younger brother was about to head off to college last summer. I was showing him my ebook Simplified Dinners, trying to convince him that he didn’t have to eat ramen or hot dogs even though he was going to be off campus in his own apartment. “See,” I pointed to one page, “You just saute some onions and peppers…” “Saute?” he interrupted, “is that like cutting something really small?”
I realized then that I had to make a simpler Simplified Dinners.
I worked on that as a project, and discovered a great a perk: my 11-year-old and 9-year-old sons were eager test cooks! Now they have over 10 different dinners under their belt and are quite independent in the kitchen, simply using Simplified Dinners for New Cooks as their source. They can cook a meal from scratch and get it from basic ingredients in the cupboards to dinner on the table. Yes, it takes them longer than it would take me, but they love the responsibility and I love not being tied to the kitchen every late afternoon!
Teach Your Kids to Cook
Simplified Dinners for New Cooks is great for anyone who doesn’t have much cooking experience, someone who doesn’t know what saute or dice means. They can still get dinner on the table with this resource in their hands. It’s great for dads on kitchen duty, for grads out on their own for the first time, or for the mom who’s never cared to cook.
Your kids can cook dinner!
It’s also the perfect resource to teach your kids to cook! My 11-year-old and 9-year-old have been testing it out for me, and they have loved the independence they have gained in the kitchen. They can get dinner on the table all by themselves, and that makes them so proud.
Simplified Dinners for New Cooks uses only thirteen cooking terms which are explained in the opening chapters of the book. There are also only fifteen tools used total – including can opener and baking sheets – so if your kitchen is stocked with these basic tools, you know how to do the basic techniques outlined, and your pantry contains the basic items listed in the master pantry list, then you have everything you need to make a variety of dinners – or have your kids do it for you!
There’s a sample available at Simplified Pantry, so check it out to see if it’s something that will work for you!

This post is perfectly timed. Next week, I am transitioning from being a full time work at home mom (after 8 years) to a full time work out of the home mom (2 hours of commuting each day). My 10 and 13 year olds would love this book. We don’t eat out much and healthy family meal planning is extremely important to us. Thanks!

I think my girls would love this! The oldest is 11 and I can easily see handing this off to her every so often. : )

This would be wonderful for my family. I have a 13 year old son and an 11 year old daughter who love to eat. My husband and I both have two jobs and with the kids activities/sports it is hard for me to race home and cook. This would be a huge help for our family and give the kids not only a bit of independence but a skill they can have for the rest of their lives by helping me cook.

I may have adult kids and now grandkids. But I’m a new cook. I never wanted to learn to cook. I married a man who could. Now he’s working long hours and the responsibility of meal preparation falls on me. Any help I can get is wonderful!

I am a homeschooling mama of three daughters -13, 11, and 7. They love to help me in the kitchen, and I think this would be a terrific resource for giving them more responsibility for a meal from start to finish. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity.

My kids like to cook with me, but for the most part they’re not super independent yet. They would get a huge thrill out of being able to make something from start to finish, though, and they’re at the right age for it. This would be great!

I have fibromyalgia and arthritis making it hard for me to always cook dinner. This book would allow my 10 year old to help out.

This sounds like a great book! My youngest is 4, and this looks like a great resource for her to grow into!

My daughter will be married in August. She will be a new cook. Due to her hard work in college and sometimes working two jobs, along with service and church activities, she has learned very little about cooking. She is really into a healthy, non-processed diet, and could use the help of this book!

I am always looking for ways to teach the kids to help in the kitchen. I think they would love this!

this would be great for us because Ben loves to cook, but I’m not that great at it!

What a great idea! This book would help guide my girls (13 and 9) into homemaking! Maybe it would help them expand their pallet

As a mom of 8 kids I’m constantly in the kitchen with the little ones. It’s a great opportunity to help them learn and do many things hands on. This book sounds like a great tool and resource we could benefit from!

We also have 9 and 11 year old boys and both of them love to help in the kitchen! I have been wondering how to go from letting them shred cheeses and chop to the big step of putting a meal together with me or dad just overseeing. Our season of life has changed so much this past year that teaching these two wonderful, capable boys to cook a couple of meals start to finish is going to be a relief for me and fun for them lol. Looking forward to your ideas! Thank you!

I know my kids would LOVE this! They love cooking now and they’re always looking for new things to cook. 🙂

And now I see I’m supposed to tel you why we need this. 🙂 I have kids who love to cook, but a mother who doesn’t love to teach them, is that honest enough for you? I’d love for them to be more independent and be able to have their own resource instead of me having to modify all of our more complicated cookbooks.

I am also a mom that does not enjoy cooking but thankfully have children that do! Would love something concrete to help them learn more skills.
