Anger is something most of us have experienced in one form or another but are very reluctant to talk about. I think there is some shame involved, feeling that you’re the only one, guilt, and sometimes the enemy makes us feel like we’re the only ones that struggle with this particular thing.
But, friend, you’re not alone.
You’re not alone. And upon realizing you’re not alone, we then go to Christ in repentance.
And Christ, in His infinite mercy, forgives and helps us to start afresh.
I think we forget that repentance is a daily necessity. Whether it’s anger, pride, selfishness, lying, cheating, arguing…whatever the sin, God gives grace upon grace. But, let us not neglect the repentance part of the equation. Humbling ourselves before God so that in that humility, our hearts are softened and God can do His thing.
Repentance brings hope. Christ is hope.
These books I’m sharing today are so helpful for helping to do battle with the enemy in regards to our anger issues!
5 Books for Christian Parents on Anger
Defuse: A Mom’s Survival Guide for More Love, Less Anger – In this timely survival guide, positive mom Karol Ladd offers practical steps to help mothers identify hidden anger in their own lives and in the lives of each member of their family. When tempers flare they need to know how to respond quickly to defuse the situation and to, instead, create a more loving atmosphere where anger has no place.
Good and Angry: Exchanging Frustration for Character in You and Your Kids! – The authors of this book are the founders of the National Center for Biblical Parenting and I love all of their materials! I’ve reviewed several of their books on my blog before {Motivate Your Child and The Christian Parenting Handbook} and one thing I love about their books is that there is always practical help in each of them!! In Good and Angry, moms and dads will come to understand anger’s true purpose and how they can use it successfully in their day-to-day parenting. They will also learn new approaches that will solve many common problems and, in the process, help both them and their children grow closer to God.
How to Control Your Emotions, So They Don’t Control You: A Mom’s Guide to Overcoming – Is it really possible to stop the downward spiral of our emotions and respond to challenging situations with grace and dignity? Yes, and with her familiar honesty and boy mom humor, Brooke McGlothlin offers moms a biblical model for submitting emotions to the authority of the Word of God that really works! How to Control Your Emotions So They Don’t Control You is a practical, highly usable, biblical model for submitting your emotions to the authority of the Word of God. After you read it, you’ll be equipped with information you can put into place immediately to start seeing a difference in your heart.
Pitchin’ A Fit!: Overcoming Angry and Stressed-Out Parenting – It seems like everyone is stressed and overwhelmed these days. We are all so busy and have too much on our plates. What does this lead to? Frustration and anger. Israel & Brook give practical suggestions along with questions to consider to help us walk through these crazy lives without losing our tempers. One thing I love about this book is that you hear the perspective of mom AND dad, I think that helps to make this book unique and helpful for both parents!
She’s Gonna Blow!: Real Help for Moms Dealing with Anger – I read this book when my kids were younger and I was finding myself so surprised by my anger and how easily frustrated I could become. I guess it surprised me that motherhood was bringing out the worst in me. This is a great and practical book for moms!

Couldn’t have come at a better time! Thank you for posting this – I’ll definitely be checking some of these out. My 7 year old son really struggles to deal with his emotions, particularly anger. I usually manage to stay calm when I’m dealing with him, but sometimes my anger ends up getting the better of me & then we’re both unable to deal with the situation! Some practical advice would be great, but sometimes it just helps to know you’re not the only one struggling with certain things 🙂

This was great timing. My four year old is REALLY testing his boundaries. And it’s really pushing me to the end of my limits. Sadly my library only has two of these books.
