Hiding God’s Word in our hearts has eternal benefits. I hope these tips help. Which tip will help you the most and what Scripture are you currently memorizing or want to start memorizing? Any tips you would add?
Practical Tips for Memorizing Scripture
1. Repetition is key.
Read the passage, read it again. Keep reading it multiple times a day.

2. Read it aloud.
One phrase at a time. Repeat each phrase until you can say the phrase without looking.
3. Write it on index cards.
Carry your cards with you everywhere and read/recite through the day.

4. Listen to the passage.
Use the YouVersion or other audio Bible app in the version you’re memorizing. Try to say it with the reader as you go about your day — driving, cooking, or even falling asleep.
5. Remember the goal.
To know and love God more, to be transformed into His image. Romans 12:2 is a good place to start.

6. Don’t give up.
You are doing good (and hard!) work. Don’t let the enemy convince you otherwise.
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Wisdom from Others on Scripture Memorization
“One of the most valuable aids to meditation is Scripture memorization. In fact, when I encounter someone who is battling discouragement or depression, I often ask two questions: “Are you singing to the Lord?” and “Are you memorizing Scripture?” These two exercises are not some magical formula to make all our problems go away, but they do have incredible power to change our perspective and attitude toward the issues we are facing.”
— Nancy Leigh DeMoss Wolgemuth
“God’s Word must be so strongly fixed in our minds that it becomes the dominant influence in our thoughts, our attitudes, and our actions. One of the most effective ways of influencing our minds is through memorizing Scripture. David said, “I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11).”
— Jerry Bridges
“When you preoccupy your mind with God’s Word, you go a long way toward shutting out temptation. By committing Scripture verses to memory, you begin the process of forcing out negative, limiting thoughts and replacing them with the marvelous power of God’s promises. Remember, the Word of God does not lie dormant once internalized.”
— Tommy Newberry
“The word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
— Hebrews 4:12
Let this be an encouragement today: the time we spend planting Scripture in our hearts is never wasted. It forms the foundation for endurance, joy, and truth in every season. Whether you’re just beginning or continuing your journey, you’re storing up treasure that lasts forever.
