“My fulfillment depends on my answer…” Whew. Convicting. “If I trust Him, I will obey Him gladly.”
Elisabeth Elliot
Obedience in the face of disappointing others is h.a.r.d. Especially when you’re coming out of a lifetime of seeking to please others.
Obedience when it’s hard to say yes is hard.
Obedience when it’s hard to say no is hard.
But friends, you will never experience the fulfillment or the fruit of obedience if you don’t take that step. I have learned it the hard way. Time and time again. And I still mess it up. I don’t claim to have achieved some level of spirituality in this, far from it!
But every single little “yes” makes the next bigger “yes” a tiny bit easier. And oh, the freedom and peace and fulfillment when you say YES to Him.
What If You’re Unsure What He’s Asking?
Are you not hearing from Him? Unsure what He is asking you to be obedient in?
Start here:
- Open your Bible. Every day. Meet with Him. He speaks to us through His Word.
- Walk through a study. One resource that has deeply shaped me is Experiencing God. Go through it, even slowly. It will change your life.

A Final Encouragement
If you’re wrestling with obedience, know this: God’s call is always for your good and His glory. Saying yes may be hard in the moment, but it leads to lasting joy.
So today — and every day — the question remains: will I trust Him enough to obey Him gladly?
