10 Verses For When You Doubt God’s Love

Ever had a day, week, or maybe a whole year where you want to ask God the same question Gideon did? “If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?” {Judges 6:13} If the Lord is with me, why is this happening? There are times when what happens to us makes us doubt His love, but our circumstances are not an indicator of His love. Even in the worst God is looking out for our best.

Since 2013, I have been on a mission to grasp how much He loves me. Circumstances told me He wasn’t on my side. Pain declared He didn’t have me on His heart when He allowed betrayal to enter my life. I got to the point of thinking because others had rejected me maybe He had too. The only problem with those thoughts is as I read God’s Word I saw a different picture. Dozens of snapshots of His love for me.

Are you feeling like He left? Maybe He doesn’t care like you thought He did? Are you wondering why He saw fit to allow pain into your life? This might be the time to search out how He loves you regardless of what you have been through. Here are ten verses that have helped me get through the hard times when I felt He was against me.

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. {Exodus 14:14} What a comfort to know we don’t have to always fight our battles. He is there fighting for us. I don’t have to defend myself…He will do that for me.

But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him. {II Samuel 14:14} I recently came across this verse, and it jumped out at me! What love that He comes up with ways to bring us back to Him even when we fail. Have you done something you feel that God will never forgive? He really is all about bringing us back to Him no matter what we have done or where we have been.

He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. {II Samuel 22:20} Two years ago, God brought me to a spacious place. It was one of the most painful events I have been through in life, but through the heartache I realized He delights in me. He delights in you also even when taking you to “a spacious place” is painful.

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. {Genesis 50:19} Joseph said these words to his brothers, and we all know how his life turned out. He went from pit to prison to palace. At times, I am sure it looked like God’s love was far away, but those painful circumstances were for his good and the good of others.

But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. {Psalm 10:14} Never think for a moment that God doesn’t see your grief. He loves you too much to overlook it.

Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders. {Deuteronomy 33:12} I love this picture of God carrying us. We can rest secure in His love even when life is shaking.

Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him! {Isaiah 30:18} He looks for opportunities to be gracious to you. I have started to take note when I see His love in my life. It may be a kind word from a stranger, a debt forgiven, or extra time in my day. He is constantly looking for ways to bless us.

You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. {Psalm 18:35} A God that stoops down to make us great?It is exactly what Jesus did for us. He humbled Himself by dying on a cross because of His love for us. I think many times we forget the magnitude of His sacrifice for us.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge. {Ephesians 3:17-19} God’s love is wide, long, high, and deep! Oh, that we would grasp how much He loves us. Our anxieties and hurts would melt away if we truly understood His love.

Though she {a mother} may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are every before me. {Isaiah 49:15-16} Moms LOVE their kids. God loves like that. He will go to great lengths to show you His love, even engraving you {I am thinking nails did the engraving!} on his hands.

It is my prayer you will be able to grasp the depth of His love no matter your circumstances!!
