This coming week our FIAR adventures take us into the air…learning all about airplanes and the some of the first adventurers in the air. I think our week with The Glorious Flight will be a fun week!
Books we will read
Other activities and lessons
*we will introduce a few names like the Wright Brothers and Amelia Earhart and add them to our timeline
*HSS has a lapbook for Glorious Flight! From these lapbook components, we will be doing: label an airplane, Louis Bleriot minit book, ways to travel. I also have a freebie lapbook I saved awhile back on Amelia Earhart, we will do just a few of those pieces too. There is a cute vocabulary book shaped like a plane we will use.
*Look at this awesome paper model of Bleriot’s plane from the book we are reading! You do have to pay for it (2.95) but that price isn’t too bad. Someone on the FIAR boards posted about this. She said to print it on cardstock.
*HERE is a good site for making some paper airplanes. I’m hoping daddy will agree to help with this project!
*I’m hoping to call our local (and small) airport to see if we can come by there one day for a tour.
*introduce Roman numerals (lesson from FIAR manual to go along with numerals found in book)
*Here is an airplane coloring page
*Here are a few coloring pages, I happen to like the realistic looking ones better.
*The Tennessee Museum of Aviation is close enough to us that we could visit. I am going to check into it further to see if there are things that my small children would appreciate AND to see if they have a homeschool/teacher discount.
