Today the kids helped me on a fun craft…making a treasure map! As we were working on this project together Hannah announced that this was the best craft she had ever done! LOL!
We followed the directions from the HSS Pirate lapbook/unit to make this map and it worked very well!
First we crumpled up the paper to get it all wrinkled.
Then, we tore off the edges of our papers.
Using a medicine dropper, we dripped tea onto our papers to stain them.
We sprinkled cinnamon around the edges too.
Next, we used a hair dryer to get our maps dry a little faster.
After the maps were dry, I used a match to light the edges of the paper to make it look even older. And, then we used markers to draw our actual maps. We drew islands, mountains, pirate ships, compasses, fish in the ocean…and then dotted lines to show where to go. Of course we also put a big X on the island where the treasure is!

After the kids got done with their maps, the ran around the house with their maps (and eyepatches) trying to find treasure. Every few minutes I’d hear “Arrrrrrr” coming from a room somewhere in the house! So fun!
