I know one of the reasons God gives us kids is to HUMBLE us! LOL!! I’ve learned this lesson, or rather, been humbled by my kids, on many occasions.
But, this past weekend I have 2 lovely experiences with Caleb that I thought I’d share.
First of all, it’s been raining here for days. Saturday was supposed to be Caleb’s 1st t-ball game. We are SUPER excited to be starting t-ball, as daddy is a big baseball fan, and I have fond memories of going to my brothers ball games for years growing up…so we’ve been looking forward to this big event with excitement!
The first game got rained out. Bummer. But, they still decided to do their pictures. In the rain. Ok. So, I take Caleb, we are waiting under a pavilion and as we go out one by one for individual shots, we have to stand in the rain. So, to persuade Caleb to come out for his picture, I stand out in the rain for oh, quite awhile. He didn’t come. Nope. Wasn’t having anything to do with it. The photographer did try. She even snapped some shots of him just standing there. He would not hold the bat. Would not hold the glove. Just stood there. Needless to say, I didn’t purchase any pictures.
Then, time for the group shot. Nothing. No crying, no screaming. But he was NOT going out there with the group to get his picture taken. I could make it sound a little better by saying he probably didn’t want to stand in the rain. (I didn’t either.) But, honestly, I think he was just being stubborn! (sidenote: why on earth did I end up with 3 of these stubborn-type kids?!?! I guess God thought I needed a lot of humbling!)
So, tonight…the next t-ball game! So, it’s really his first game since the others got rained out. We are super excited! Caleb, not so much. Now, just as a side note, in practices and at home he has hit the ball a LOT of times and actually can hit it pretty far for his age group! (not bragging or anything.) But, tonight, Caleb wanted no part in any of that! He just stood there. The entire night. Looking around. Standing there. Not moving. Not hitting, not running, not going after the ball in the field. Nothing. Nada.
Like I said, parenting will humble you. Thank goodness His mercy is new every morning! 🙂

Hugs to you friend. Parenting is humbling for sure! (((Candace))) It sounds like you handled it all very well.
Thank you so much for the links to the rabbit items. They were perfect and Daniel enjoyed them in his boxes today! I appreciate your help!
Blessings

That rascal! He’ll get through it. Emily just stood there through her first ballet practice, remember? Will pouted and refused to play during his first game as well. Funny to think about kids getting nervous.

Hey Candace, you may as well have been talking about my son too- he did the SAME thing for his pictures, although it wasn’t raining here, and then he would just stand there during his games. Our season is coming to a close and I’m proud to say that he eventually warmed up and started playing and loved it. It’s nice to be reminded that there are other parents who deal with very similar situations. Thanks for sharing!
