In the 2nd chapter of A Child’s Geography, the kids and I learned about the different layers of the lower atmosphere. I don’t really even remember learning this stuff! To reinforce what we learned, I had the girls do a notebooking page on this topic. We drew 3 layers in their book and labeled them. Then, in the troposphere we drew our weather items – clouds, rain, lightening. Then, the stratosphere is next, and we drew a net to remind us of the ozone that is like a “net” catching the bad before it comes into our breathing air. And finally, the mesosphere with shooting stars and meteors.
We colored in Africa on the world map and learned that Africa is the 2nd largest continent.
One day we found Uganda on the map and discussed that Kenneth lives there, the little boy we sponser. So, we also colored the Ugandan flag and found Uganda on the African map.
We also began reading this biography of David Livingstone, missionary to Africa in the 1800’s. It has been good to learn about him and hear about what life was like for a missionary. We also added his picture to our timeline!
And, finally, our scripture memory for this week is the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
