As many of us start a school year, or are even in the middle of our new year already, we all need a little encouragement in our journey as mom and homeschool teacher. I decided today that I would pull out my favorite books written for homeschool moms and start reading through them again this week. I have cleaned out and gotten rid of the books in our home several times recently…and the ones I have left are my absolute favorites!! So, I thought I’d share them with you! Please, do share your favorites with me, too!
I very much enjoy reading, as you have probably noticed. However, I do have to keep in mind that my main source of wisdom and guidance as I start the homeschool year must come from the Lord.
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace;
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds withint the veil.
my anchor holds withint the veil.
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
His oath, His covenant, His blood
support me in the whelming flood;
support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay.
he then is all my hope and stay.
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
When He shall come with trumpet sound
oh, may I then in Him be found
oh, may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne.
faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ the solid rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
I must never forget that CHRIST is my solid rock…not the multitude of blogs I read, books I enjoy, or any other source of information that I do thoroughly enjoy reading. He alone is my source of hope, my wisdom and my peace. When I am in need of wisdom (which is so very often) I turn to His Word and He hears my prayer. No amount of books read or blogs perused can even compare to the wisdom I will receive in time spent with my Father in prayer.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and shun evil. Proverbs 3:5-7.
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. James 3:17
With all of that said, God can and does use many fellow believers in our lives to show us things in Scripture or to give us encouragement. I have found these books to be in line with the reasons I desire to homeschool, they give me encouragement and support as I seek to educate my children in the ways of the Lord.
My favorite homeschooling books
Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit by Teri Maxwell. I have shared some of my thoughts about this book here.
Beyond Survival: A Guide to Abundant Life Homeschooling by Diana Waring.
Real Learning: Education in the Heart of My Home by Elizabeth Foss. As you know, I’m a huge fan of Elizabeth’s blog too.
The Mom Walk: Keeping in Step with God’s Heart for Motherhood by Sally Clarkson. She also has a blog which is wonderful! I shared a few thoughts about this book a few months ago. Also, this book could be just an encouragement for moms in general, not necessarily homeschool moms only.
A Pocketful of Pinecones by Karen Andreola. I also enjoy her other book, A Charlotte Mason Companion: Personal Reflections on the Art of Gentle Learning.
“Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are my God and my Savior, my hope is in You all day long.”
Psalm 25:4-5
Psalm 25:4-5

We have the same taste in books; I have most of those and I would recommend them too as the cream of the crop:)

Thank you Candace! I may just have to print out those lyrics and post them somewhere as a reminder. You even motivated me to dig out my copy of Homeschooling with a meek and quiet spirit – I don’t think I ever finished it!

I would like to buy ONE new homeschooling book at the beginning of this year. Which do you recommend: Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit, The Mom Walk or The Charlotte Mason Companion?
Those are all books I don’t own, but have had my eye on.
