We made coupon books for each child! Each child has 12 coupons, one for each month. The month of their birthday, each child gets to choose a “Fun Family Day,” which will include a choice of something like zoo, park, bowling, etc.
Here are the 12 coupons in each child’s book. (and we arranged them so that we are doing 3 different things each month – so no 2 coupons will be the same in each month.)
(2) choose a redbox movie to watch
(2) date with mommy
(2) breakfast date with daddy
(2) your choice Sunday lunch
(2) Family Fun day of your choice
(1) bake a treat of your choice with daddy
(1) Christmas shopping with mommy
Last year we attempted going on dates with each child and kind of fell short in keeping it going…so we’re hoping this will give us the accountability to keep it consistent. This will also allow the kids some choices in fun family outings!
I used this page to create the coupons online. You can customize any type of coupon on this page.
What is your favorite gift that you are giving this year?

What a great idea, Candace! I bet your kids will be thrilled. I may borrow this idea as a stocking stuffer for my kids (maybe for Brian too!) You’ll have to post, throughout the year, on how things are working out.

Making coupons is a good way to ensure consistency. I have been wanting us to each have a special date with the kids each month, but it has been pretty spotty. This is a great idea!

Thank you so much Candace for sharing these! I just got ours all fixed up and Bryan is going to print them at work on Monday. I love this idea and I know our kids will be excited about what we wrote out for their coupons.
I love that it’s a gift that will continue throughout the entire year.

Candace,
Thanks for the idea. My husband and I have talked about doing dates with the kids, but we tend to forget to follow through. I made coupons for our kids that I will give out at our first of the year family meeting next week. I plan to sit down with the kids and the calendar and pencil in the events so we don’t forget. Hopefully, this will help us with our follow-through!
