As you probably remember if you have read here for long, I am a huge fan of Beth Moore and her Bible studies! I have done many of them with our church, mostly recently having finished James. Her studies are just amazing and I always learn so much from them!!
So, when I was approached about reviewing a new book she has out based on the Bible Study, A Heart Like His, I jumped at the chance!! This book is called A Heart Like His: Intimate Reflections on the Life of David. In fact, I think it is neat because if I remember correctly, this is the FIRST Bible Study of Beth Moore’s that I ever did!! Pretty cool! (There is still a workbook and study based on this title and on David’s life, but this book that I received is not the workbook version.)
This book is not a workbook, Bible study type book like most of her others. It is actually a book with chapters. However, the chapters are so short that I have used it like a devotion book to read a small portion each morning when I wake up.
I have loved having a closer look at the life of David, he is one of my favorite Bible characters!
There are 52 chapters in this book, but don’t let that scare you! They are really 2-3 pages long each! Along with these chapters, the book is divided up into parts. Part 1 contains 10 chapters and is based on Psalm 23. Part 2 contains 5 chapters and is based on Psalm 59, etc. So each part of the book is based on a different part of David’s life and many of the Psalms that he penned.
Since the Psalms are my favorite book of the Bible, it is easy to understand why I love this book and studying David so much. To learn more about a man that had a “heart after God’s own heart” is what I want to be learning! Knowing that He had huge failures but still worshiped God like no one else in Scripture brings joy to my heart. David had such a wide variety of emotions – such highs and lows as described in the Psalms. I think David and I would have had a lot in common. 🙂
This book is really an easy way to get a more in-depth look at the life of David along with many of the Scriptures he wrote. So, if you are looking for an easy way to get in some Bible Study – without the workbook – just a little reading and your Bible – this might be a good place to start.
**I received the book A Heart Like His free of charge, in exchange for sharing my honest opinion here on my blog.
