My girls are in 4th and 5th grade this year. I have had trouble (myself) getting into a good writing routine with them. I have tried several programs, several ideas…and while they haven’t been bad or anything, we just haven’t been able to stick with them.
So, while trying to search for the perfect program (ha) I started giving my girls writing prompts just to get them writing on a regular basis. So far, their favorite method of writing prompts has been picture writing prompts!!
These are so fun, I think I’d like to give some of them a try! 🙂
Here is a pinterest board full of writing prompts if you’d like to try a few out with your kiddos!
More Writing Prompt Ideas
- Rory’s Story Cubes– I have my girls draw 2 out (or however many) and write a story based on the pictures they “roll”
- Journaling Jar – print off a bunch of journaling prompts and have them draw a new one each day (there are some pinned on the above pinterest board, here is another huge list of journaling prompts!)
- seasonal writing ~ I generally take advantage of whatever season or holiday is coming up…write what you love about winter, if you could give anything to anyone for Christmas what would it be? If you were to go to the beach on vacation, what would you need to take with you? You get the idea. 🙂Â
And I’d love to hear your ideas for writing prompts as well!! How do you get your students writing?Â
