This is a new series here on my blog. I’m very excited about it. And a little bit afraid. You see, I keep reading online and hearing from other moms about how homeschooling families must be different…they must be brilliant, the homeschool mom must have all this patience, the homeschool mom must be uber-organized…and on and on.
I’m here today {with this new series} to tell you the truth.
Case and point #1: the above picture is my school room at 8am this morning. What is worse? It looks like this very often. You see that table? How in the world do we do school on it? ha! Not to mention those chicks in that box that are way.too.big to still be in that box!
This homeschool mom {and so many others like me} don’t have our acts together. We aren’t as patient with our kids as we need to be, we don’t have the organizational skills of Martha Stewart. In fact, most days my husband comes home and I tell him that I just can’t do this another day.
And most of all, we are in desperate need of His new mercies…every day, every morning…every single moment.Β

Awesome! Just the encouragement we all need as we look ahead at a another (perhaps daunting) years of home education.
Candace Crabtree says
Sarah – you are right!! We can definitely encourage one another by being real. Would love to have you guest post for a week of Real Life Homeschooling! π I updated my post with more info because ya’ll are so great!
Dianna Auton says
I love knowing that I am not alone in this. There are others out there like me. π
Candace Crabtree says
Diana, isn’t it wonderful to know we aren’t alone?? It is so like the enemy to isolate us and make us feel like we are the only ones struggling.
Megan says
Amen! So great to see the real life of a homeschooler – I love it! Looks very similar to mine. My favorite part of this photo is the cat watching the chicks – haha! π And I think (or at least I tell myself) that at the end of this parenting thing, our kids will remember the fun we had, the learning that took place, the pictures that were hung all over the house, and they won’t remember the messes at all. π
Candace Crabtree says
You are SO RIGHT. I often am WAY too frustrated by my messy house. I need to slow down and remember that it’s not that important…and it’s definitely not what is MOST important!!
Candace Crabtree says
YES! for sure. π
Linda M. says
Love this! I often feel SO overwhelmed trying to balance it all….work..homeschooling….family…..church. Choosing to homeschool our children is both the best AND hardest decision we have ever made. Thank you for sharing!
Sara @ Embracing Destiny says
I love this idea! I think your homeschool room is beautiful, by the way. I love all those windows! Looks like a lot of fun learning goes on there. I don’t see a mess — I see heart and soul and family togetherness. =0)
Kim Huff says
I’ll definitely be keeping up with this series π I love to keep it real.
Alicia Charmbury says
Looking forward to reading!

Thank you so much for your honesty. It is so hard when other homeschoolers only share their successes — their beautifully organized homeschool rooms, their childrens’ neat and accurate notebook pages, their childrens’ scholarships. This is a breath of fresh air!
Brandy Castillo says
Thanks SO much for this. When I was new to HSing other blogs discouraged me because I though I could NEVER do that! How can she find the time for it ALL! But I realized soon that we don’t see it all! This will be a breath of fresh air, especially to newbies!!!!

The Andersons says
I love the picture…looks like our house. I am sitting here chuckling at the kitty who is watching the chickys in the box. Hope he didn’t get them. lol. I look forward to reading your updates.
