This week we are blessed to have a guest post from Miranda, who has been a long time online friend! She blogs at The Pebble Pond.
My oldest daughter has cerebral palsy. We have weekly doctors appointments and physical therapy. The fact is we are just not always HOME! If I waited until we were at home to do schoolwork, we would never get anything done.
Just about everything we do, I incorporate in some kind of learning. They know all about how to deal with doctors. Make phone calls. Refill prescriptions. They understand the hows and whys of physical, occupational and speech therapy. We have done more nature studies than I care to admit!
I will admit that there are days when things feel so hectic that we leave the school books at home and just deal with the day. It is bound to happen. A long time ago, I learned to just roll with the punches. It takes the pressure off.
This homeschool mom {and so many others like me} don’t have our acts together. We aren’t as patient with our kids as we need to be, we don’t have the organizational skills of Martha Stewart. In fact, most days my husband comes home and I tell him that I just can’t do this another day.
And most of all, we are in desperate need of His new mercies…every day, every morning…every single moment.
Guest Posters wanted: the response to this post has been so great. ya’ll are great. 🙂 SO, I’m going to open up this series for GUEST POSTERS!! If you are a homeschooler and want to contribute your own “real like homeschooling” post, please email me with your post! I would like to have a picture to go with it. And if you have a blog, I will link back to you! 🙂 If you want to “grab” the picture in the top of this post, I will let you know when your post will go live and you can use this graphic as a teaser and point people here to read! I really think these will be encouraging to all of us as homeschooling mamas! I hope to share one post per week on this series!!

This article really spoke to me.
I am a messy homeschool mom of two, one is ADHD boy, and the other is an ADD girl. And there are days I want to pull my hair out!
My children are definitely what we would call unconventional learners, she cries and he screams through bookwork, so we break out mad libs for language, or monopoly for money math, yahtzee serves as a great replacement for a multiplication drill sheet, and baking helps cover basic fractions.
I have to be so creative with their education because he cannot sit still, and she is slow at getting concepts. Their brains just don’t work like the conventional kids does. But it is so rewarding to see my hard work pay off in the end. It may take more time to get them to grasp a concept, but once its there it pretty amazing.
It is always funny when I sit down to make my school schedule for the upcoming year thinking how cool and ready I am. And two days into it I have completely thrown it out the window. I don’t know why I do it?
Our school is done around the table, in the car, at the library, zoo, museum, etc…
Its a good thing there is no one way to educate a child, because I would utterly fail.
God has given me unique children because he wanted to teach me something. Everyone always feels sorry for me and wants to pat me on the back for being such a great mom, but the truth is, I am blessed to have these two little people in my life. I have grown more gentle, kind, compassionate, patient and forgiving toward everyone around me because of them.
Thank you for posting an article I can really relate to!
