If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve heard me talking about my sort of adrenal crash in my stories. I started having some very frustrating symptoms in the fall of 2023. I’ve also been sharing all the things I’m doing in a highlight on Instagram called Health 2023. You can watch all of that here (I think you can watch even if you don’t use Instagram.) But I also wanted to have all of this info in one place, so I created this blog post. I hope some of this info is helpful.
I visited our Holistic Wellness Center here in Morristown, TN and have gone several times continuing to work on my health in this area!
The practioner I saw told me TWO very crucial things to my journey.
First, she thinks my body was physically experiencing the grief of the last 1-2 years in my life. She said that no supplement will cure me if I’m not handling my emotions and grief in healthy ways. Dealing with it, processing emotions, etc.
Secondly, she said one of the best sources for healing our nervous systems and adrenals is NATURE. Don’t you love that?!
I just finished reading this book and wrote this blog post about it. If you’re 40+ or struggling with adrenals, hormones, peri-menopause or menopause, please read it!!
Changes I’ve already made PRIOR to 2023:
- Cut out gluten, sugar, most dairy
- Cut out seed oils (try to)
- Exercise
- Gone off anti-depressants, metformin, sleep meds
- Already taking daily: Ningxia Red, Sulfurzyme, Immupro at night, Greens, Mineral Essence, Super B
- (I lost 65 pounds as a result of these changes listed above.)
In August 2023 I started having these symptoms:
- Waking nightly around 2am and having trouble going back to sleep (worse sleep issues than usual)
- Crying all the time – a lot weepier than usual, multiple times a day
- Waking anxious with pit in my stomach
- Irrational thoughts
- Intrusive thoughts all night keeping me awake, leading to panic attacks in early morning
- No appetite
Tests I Had Run:
- Bloodwork done: too high cortisol in the morning, adrenal dysfunction, too low cholesterol
- Saliva test for hormones: high progesterone, very low/non-existent testosterone, low estrogen
- Positive for MTHFR both gene mutations
- Nutritional/muscle testing at Holistic Wellness Center in Morristown

Adrenal Cocktail Recipe & Why
If you suffer from chronic stress, you probably would like to know what can help you. With all of the symptoms associated with chronic stress, there is not one thing that fixes everything. However, supporting your adrenals is a good place to start, because these glands are essential in making the hormones you need to deal with stress. An adrenal cocktail is one way of making sure you are getting the nutrients you need to maintain hormone and electrolyte balance in your body. It can provide energy, support hydration, and help counter fatigue.
To understand what an adrenal cocktail does, you need to understand the role of your adrenal glands. Located just above your kidneys, the adrenal glands work to regulate certain hormones that serve vital functions in your body. (This is why my adrenals AND hormones are off – it’s all connected!)
Cortisol, aldosterone, and adrenaline, are the key hormones regulated by your adrenals, to control your energy level as well as respond to stress by increasing your heart rate and blood pressure. They are part of your “fight or flight” response. As long as these hormones remain balanced, your body will function well. However, if an imbalance occurs, symptoms related to Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome (AFS) appear.
When our adrenals and hormones are out of balance, EVERYTHING gets off!! Hormones, sleep, energy levels, and even mental health.
What is an adrenal cocktail?
An adrenal cocktail is a drink containing key vitamins and minerals. It works to build up the minerals that your body needs to make essential hormones. It helps to balance the sodium and potassium ratio, feed your cells and fight fatigue. Therefore the adrenal cocktail increases electrolytes in your body to help with processing nutrients, communicating cell to cell, and dissolving nutrients properly.
In addition to eating as clean a diet as possible, adding foods that increase your intake of vitamin C, B vitamins, and magnesium will support your adrenal glands.
Another way to get these vitamins and minerals is to make an adrenal cocktail.
They recommend 1-2 adrenal cocktails each day, I usually see it recommended to do at 10am and 2pm.
