My Background
When I was a little girl, all I wanted to be when I grew up was a teacher and a mommy. God has seen fit to grant me the desires of my heart MANY times over!
I went to college at Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, TN, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with vocal & piano emphases. I also went on through the MATS masters program and received K-8 certification.
I taught kindergarten in the Jefferson County Public Schools until having my own child in 2002. At that time, I began staying home with my own children. While staying at home, I did a little bit of teaching piano until we began homeschooling full time.
I now homeschool my children, ages 14, 13 and 11. We have homeschooled every year except one. Several years ago I began teaching piano again now that my children are a little older and more of their school work is independent.
So, God has granted me students in many areas – schools, church, home and now at the piano! What a blessing!
My Studio
My piano studio is unique. I am passionate about making music FUN for my students. I love finding games to add to their learning. They call them “off the bench” activities and I personally believe this is how children learn best! It probably is the former kindergarten teacher in me, but I feel that hands on activities and movement will always work better than other methods. So, I try to incorporate those where I can!
In the fall of 2016 I am starting something new! I will be moving nearly all my students to WEEKLY GROUP CLASSES. These will be small groups of 3-5 students, and I am SO EXCITED about this opportunity. I have been watching other teachers who do it this way (by way of webinars and workshops) and am excited to see how it works out in the fall.
