I was SO excited to try out this brand new-to-me art project with my kids from the company Art in History! Art in History is a company with a mission to create hands-on activities that will educate, engage, and inspire. I can tell you, as a teacher and a parent, that my children (and former students) always learned best when they had activities that were hands-on, but were ALSO interesting to them. I know that not everything is interesting to each of us. I mean, I don’t get too excited about math. 🙂 However, when we can find things to draw in our students, to engage them, to INSPIRE them…I always think our kids will learn more.
After doing this art project with my children, I can tell you that I believe the Art in History company has succeeded in meeting the goals of their mission. We found this art project to be educating, engaging and inspiring.
Look at these pictures to see how amazing our art work turned out!! My kids all loved this project AND the finished product was amazing!
Art in History has many different projects available from different periods of history. You can see the different options available for World History projects and U.S. History projects. The project we chose to work on fit in perfectly with our Ancient History & Egypt studies. We chose to do the Ancient Egypt ~ King Tut Tomb Frieze. This kit in particular cost $9.95 per kit, if you order 18 or more you can get the price of $6.49. {I do hope the company will consider making some sort of special for homeschool families that usually will not order 18 kits, but generally can’t always afford 3-4 of the $9.95 price either!}
Included with our kit we received the frieze replica (a stone/tile type piece with the Egyptian figures engraved into the stone.)We also received the paint needed, paint brush, small paper plates to put our paint on, as well as a PDF lesson download with the historical information to teach my students. I really felt like all the materials included in this kit were very high quality! Â If you are interested in purchasing MORE teaching material, you can also get a Teacher’s Guide that has 4-5 – 50 minute lesson plans for use in grades 3-12. These guides are $24.95.
While learning about Egypt, we have learned what canopic jars were and how they were used. Wouldn’t it be fun to have these jars to create ourselves? I think that when we get to Ancient Greece in our studies, I would love to do this Drinking Vessel with my kids! Â They also have some Primary Source materials available.
Overall, my kids and I were very impressed with this project and we would LOVE to do more in the future!! Painting these tomb friezes really helped give my kids a visual of what we had been reading so much about in our history studies. I think those visual and hands-on projects make all the difference in the world for helping kids to learn and retain what they are learning. I’m excited to try another one of these projects with my kids in the future!
