Scripture: Ecclesiastes 2:13
“Then I saw that wisdom excels folly as light excels darkness. The wise man’s eyes are in his head, but the fool walks in darkness.”
Considering Light:
Comparing wisdom to light strengthens our knowledge that God and His Word ARE light to us. Folly is darkness. Sometimes we find ourselves in periods of darkness, this does not mean we are fools. What does make us foolish is when we do not turn to God’s Word and the light He gives through His Word during these times.
This wisdom that comes from God? How exactly do we know if it’s from God or not? Use this passage as your guide, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
We can ask ourselves, is this true? Is it noble? Is it right? Is it pure? Is it lovely? Is it admirable, excellent or praiseworthy? If the answer to these questions is YES, then this is from God! Do not be deceived, friends, the ways of the Lord can often disguise themselves as lovely or true or noble, but usually they can’t be ALL of those things. When we are spending time with God and His Word regularly, we begin to see more clearly — He lights our path — and we can see His wisdom apart from the world’s folly.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, wisdom is better than folly. This we know. The fool walks in darkness. Help us to know the difference between Your wisdom and what the world gives us. Your Word illuminates our path…we see Your wisdom when we see You in Your Word.
