Scripture
“Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” Isaiah 25:9
In the Waiting
If you have a few extra moments today, read all of Isaiah 25. Some Bibles have given this chapter the title of “God Will Swallow Up Death Forever.” Immediately, my heart is drawn to heaven…to that day when all the waiting we’ve done in our lifetime will reach its final destination. No more waiting, no more tears, our hope fulfilled.
And on that day, we will behold our Savior, the One we’ve waited for, and our faith will be made sight. THIS is the Lord, we will say, THIS is what we’ve waited for, let us be glad and rejoice in His salvation.
Can you even imagine that moment? Can you let go of the earthly expectations and desires that have gone unmet and realize that He is what we wait for ultimately. There is no better gift than Him. He is so much better than anything else this earth can afford.
I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands;
I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced handRefrain:
Than to be the king of a vast domain
Or be held in sin’s dread sway;
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.
I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause;
I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame;
I’d rather be true to His holy nameHe’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs;
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead
Prayer
Jesus, do a work in my heart so that I’d rather have You than anything else this world can give. Grow the longing in my heart for heaven so that my waiting here on earth is filled with anticipation for You and my eternal place with You. I have waited for You, I will continue to wait for You and You will save me. You are the Lord, the One I wait for, and I will be glad and rejoice in Your salvation above all else, Father.
