Scripture
“So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.” Hosea 12:6
In the Waiting
“By the help of our God…” This waiting? Waiting on God alone? We can’t do it on our own. Wait continually on your God. We need the supernatural Spirit of God alive in our hearts to bring us to a place of true surrender and yielding and trust in Him.
Of course, part of the responsibility is ours, preparing our hearts for the Lord. Confession. Repentance. A turning completely to Him. And at times, I believe the Lord is calling us to step away from our busy schedules and spend time with Him. Sometimes a few quiet moments in the morning is all we can manage, but sometimes we can make the effort to have more. More time, more quiet, more waiting…these times allow God to work in us in ways that aren’t always possible in the daily grind.
Yet, this passage says to wait continually upon Him? Most of us don’t have the opportunity to continually sit in quiet. {grin} As we walk through our days, craziness and all, we can train our hearts to continually wait and hope in the Lord. Fixing our eyes on Jesus, memorizing His Word and carrying it with us, repeating it through our day. Read the Word, learn it, memorize it, meditate on it, pray it…the Word of God does not return void. {Isaiah 55:11} He will do mighty and amazing works in our hearts when we open ourselves up to Him and His Word.
Prayer
Lord, with Your help I can learn to wait continually on You. It doesn’t come naturally to me, Father, this You know. But, with Your help, it is possible. Help me to return to You, my first love. Help me to hold fast to love and justice and to wait continually on You, my God.
