Scripture
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
In the Waiting
Waiting makes us weary. Waiting can take the life out of us and take our eyes off the race. Waiting can lead to hopelessness if we aren’t waiting only upon the Lord. Yet, even when we have our eyes fixed on Jesus, we can grow weary. This is to be expected, we are human, after all.
But, did you know that the Lord never grows weary? In fact, not only does God hold all power on this earth, He gives power to the weak. He comforts the broken. He heals the sick. He dries the tears from our eyes. He frees the oppressed. He breaks the chains. {Isaiah 58}
There is comfort in knowing that in my weariness He is strong. There is hope in the knowledge that He never grows weary. He doesn’t grow weary of me and He doesn’t grow weary of you. He waits to be gracious to you.
And when we are weary? He gives us His strength. Because of His power in us, our strength will be renewed, we will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not grow faint. He who has called you is faithful! Even when we aren’t faithful and even when we think we can’t face one more day of waiting, He doesn’t give up, He doesn’t quit and He is waiting – with strength – to be gracious to you.
Prayer
Oh Lord, I believe, help my unbelief. Some days the weariness is overpowering. I long for your power to take over and to be filled with Your strength. You are the everlasting God and you give power to the faint, you increase my strength. You know that in our humanness we will grow weary, and when we do, we wait on You and You renew our strength, we will mount up with wings as eagles, we will run and not be weary, we will walk and not grow faint. Only through your strength and power, Lord Jesus, and for Your glory.
