This book was recommended to me by a friend and has been SO very eye opening!
Disclaimer: This topic is obviously very personal for me. I spent many years on antidepressants and for me personally, the ended up making things worse. None of my doctors ever talked to me about other things that could be causing my depression. I am learning SO MUCH about the things that affect our mental health. That said, I have SO MUCH EMPATHY and love for those of you who are on anti-depressants and will never tell anyone to go off their meds! That is a decision only you can make. I only share what I am learning because I wish someone had told me these things. AND I think that even those of you on meds can STILL be EVEN healthier by learning some of this also! And if this book isn’t for you right now, just skip it!
What if we viewed depression as a symptom?
That is one of the main ideas in this book. Very eye opening. When we experience symptoms, we need to look for the root CAUSE.
Treat the cause not the symptom.
This book goes pretty deep into all sorts of things that impact our mental health. It is fascinating and nearly all of the things she mentions I have experienced myself! When I first began struggling with depression I had just had 3 babies in 3 years. My hormones were crazy. My eating was terrible. I was addicted to fast food. I wasn’t sleeping. Yet not one doctor suggested hormone testing or trying to help me sleep before putting me on multiple meds.
Gut health, the foods we eat, inflammation, sleep, hormones, toxins in our homes…all of these things play into our mental health.
And y’all. If I can make changes like this, so can you!! Don’t let this be overwhelming. Decide to take BABY STEPS toward better health and make one change at a time!!
